Harmonious Design: Lucas & Clark’s Masterstroke in Great Falls Landscape Transformation
In collaboration with Petra Construction and Design Studio, Lucas & Clark Grounds Company played a pivotal role in materializing a client’s vision for their Great Falls residence. The project involved creating a landscape that was not only beautiful but multifunctional, featuring elements like a meditation oasis, kitchen garden, and a sport court. The use of deer-resistant native plants, flowering trees, and perennials brought the design together, creating a calming, classic, and decluttered outdoor environment.
Landscape Details: From Vision to Reality
The Beginning: The project started with a clear vision: to create a transitional home defined by clean lines, a natural palette, and elegant landscaping. Maryann Mayhood, our Senior Landscape Designer, worked diligently to transform the client’s landscape aspirations into reality. A diverse range of areas was created, including a meditation oasis, kitchen garden, and a sport court. The plant selection was carefully curated, consisting of deer-resistant and native plants like boxwood, holly, osmanthus, and a variety of perennials such as Virginia Sweetspire.
Creating a Warm Welcome: The property’s entry was designed to draw attention. A lining of white blooming Natchez crape myrtle and limelight hydrangea along the main drive led to an eye-catching circular focal point at the base of the entry stairs. The hardscape drive, designed and installed by our team, consisted of smooth manufactured pavers of light grey interior earth tones bordered by a dark onyx paver.
A Natural Retreat: A naturally occurring pond bustling with wildlife was left untouched, serving as a calming focal point and the perfect location for the meditation center. Set on a sunken pea gravel pad, the center was surrounded by a mix of flowering Blackyork Cherry (Eastern Bing), native persimmon, and Karl Forester and Muhley grasses.
An Outdoor Haven: The multi-functional sport court was designed primarily for basketball and pickleball. The background retaining wall allowed for higher planting behind the court for privacy, while the unobtrusive and subtle under-rim lighting added an element of sophistication.
In partnership with Outdoor Illuminations, we enhanced the home’s street presence with strategic lighting. The project may have included many key components, but because of the emphasis on clean lines and simplicity, the result was a calm, classic, and decluttered landscape that is a prime example of modern timeless elegance.
